By the mere fact that you are visiting this page — chances are pretty good that you’re interested in having your first website. Or maybe you've spent years giving your website's address followed by "but it's not quite ready yet" and you've finally decided to get serious addressing that. Or perhaps you’re one of those poor folks whose original web designer has gone MIA. Yeah, it happens.

I build websites for small and medium-sized businesses…but only after taking the time to understand who they are, who their customers are and what goals their website needs to accomplish for them.

Here are some of my philosophies on web design:

  • Your website is a digital extension of you and therefore, it is a reflection on you. Sadly, although most people have a website these days, not everyone has a good one...well, Signature clients always do, of course!
  • Websites don't just deliver information to your visitors. They also reinforce the brand of your business while they deliver that information. It is vital that your website provides a great user experience with a smooth design, valuable content and excellent functionality.
  • Flash is cool...there's no doubt about it. But while cool stuff initially engages your visitors, its overuse can frustrate them even more...and a frustrated visitor is one who leaves your website too soon. Besides, everyone knows that Flash doesn't work on iPhones, which means that there is a right time and place for Flash...and it's as an accent on your SEO and mobile-friendly website.
  • Signature web sites are built with tableless XHTML/CSS coding that conforms to the standards of (and then validated by) the World Wide Web Consortium. Yes, the internet has its own Wizard of Oz and it's called the "W3C". If this last bullet-point makes your head spin, just know that there are right and wrong ways to build a website. Care to guess which way I build them?

The web design process should not only meet your expectations, but exceed them. To your visitors, your website should be visually appealing, have functionality that is intuitive and content that is compelling. It should be SEO-friendly in its programming…and it should absolutely be coded to today’s W3C-compliant standards. Lastly, your website should help you convert visitors into revenue-producing customers.

These are the Golden Rules of Web Design around here...it's as simple as that.
