Web Design and Digital Marketing for Small Businesses

Who I Am

Well, that's easy. I'm Kathy Hicks - a freelance Las Vegas web designer - well, a Boulder City web designer, to be just a bit more accurate!

What I Do

Most of the time, I design and develop websites for small businesses - not only in the Las Vegas area, but throughout the United States.

I favor clean and unique designs that provide a quality experience for visitors, not only in appearance, but in functionality and content. I'm a firm believer that if your website doesn't provide a positive experience for your visitors, then you are better off not having one. In fact, I believe that websites are like reputations...having a bad one can do you more damage than not having one at all!

Setting aside the importance of a beautiful design and user-friendly functionality for just a moment, my websites are SEO-friendly and 100% compliant with today's website standards as outlined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Yes, the internet really has its own "Wizard of Oz" who establishes guidelines and best practices that all website designers and programmers should follow. Why? So it looks the same in all browsers and in all versions as they issue automatic updates. Compliant websites also contain minimal and "clean" code that doesn't bog search engines down...and we love nothing more than to make search engines happy because they give our websites high rankings!

What I Did

For more than a decade, I was the Los Angeles-based Salesperson, General Manager and National Manager of Digital Media (in that order) for BBJ Linen, the leading specialty linen rental vendor in the special events industry. When I decided to make my escape from the corporate rat race in early 2009, I relocated to Boulder City, Nevada and founded Signature Digital Design, under which I now provide freelance web design services for small businesses (and have a lot more fun doing it).

I used to do a little bit of everything...a little sales, a little marketing, a little management...you get the idea. All that "little" gave me a lot of experience that I now use to help small and medium-sized businesses (many in the special events industry) develop or improve the very best online presence they should have to be successful in furthering their business goals.

How I Do It

I talk with my clients about what their business is now and what they want it to be in the future. Then, we figure out what we can do together to accomplish their goals, taking into consideration their timeline, budget, interests and even their limitations. We've all got them...we just need to work around them!

Mostly, I try not to scare people by overwhelming them with the endless possibilities. There are a lot of options out there and one of my first and most important jobs is to help my clients decide what is best for them.

What You Should Do

Continue to the next step of the tour, which will outline just a few of the different types of websites available, how long each might take the build, what the process is and how much you can expect to pay for each...
